The self-proclaimed-8-year-old Ice Princess

Today was one of the odd days where I have gone to the backyard to do my laundry. Heck, I never did my own laundry and was never a fan of our backyard so it was unusual for me to spend sometime outdoors. Our backyard is not as pretty as what most backyards would look like: ours have three big trees, a small lodge which houses the laundry machines, and a dog house. The ground, however, is rocky and the leaves from the trees fall to the ground which makes it hard for people to walk around. Yes, the backyard is swept daily but the trees shed their leaves so quickly that when the morning comes, it is full of leaves again. Our backyard exists just because of two purposes: 1) the laundry place and 2) since no one frequents that place, it has become our bodega (where we store our old/unwanted things). So, while waiting for my laundry to finish, I decided to rummage through our old stuff.

Digging through my old heap of stuff, I have found a piece of my childhood…

My ice skates. It was still intact complete with the blade guard and the pink Hello Kitty bag that served as it’s shoe bag. Believe it or not, I was a skater about a decade ago at SM Megamall back when they still had the skating rink at the ground floor of Mega A.  I also found some photos of me skating which made me miss skating even more…

Those were the days when I was learning how to do an arabesque on ice. Forgive me, coach, but I forgot your name. I owe my skating skills to you and I am proud to say that I still haven’t forgotten what you taught me. And coach, I still have a secret crush on you… HAHA

The “cross-over” HAHAHAHA (I look so stiff)

My mom would take me to the skating rink after office hours and we’d just stay there until the rink closes. There was one time, we stayed there until 12 AM… Often times, my dad would join me skate -funny but true.

Me and my skating friend which also happens to be my high school schoolmate, Cheska Aguilos. She dresses like most “twirl girls” on the rink which explains the shiny outfit :) I once had a twirl girl outfit but just wore it once during a show. Tried to find it in my closet but it was not there. It was suede purple and I love it so much until now!!! Too bad I’m not that tiny anymore…

6 days from now I will be leaving for Winnipeg -or Winterpeg, as how Canadians call it- and ice skating is definitely on my to-do list! Of course, I don’t want to leave the Philippines yet but at least I now have something to look forward to. :)
